Wild Waterways Adventures is a unique carbon-neutral company based off Quadra Island and Campbell River, British Columbia. They operate throughout the Salish Sea, which is the Unceded Lands and Territories of the Liǧʷiłdax̌ʷ First Nations.
I've been fortunate to photograph two of their tours: Great Bear Adventure and the Into The Wild Adventure. Both experiences were incredible and offered some of my career's best wildlife photography experiences.
During the Great Bear Adventure, we travelled from Vancouver Island to the British Columbia Mainland, travelling up the sounds and inlets along the southern BC Coast. Because we travelled in a smaller boat, we could access the estuaries, where we photographed this Grizzly sow and her yearling. On the return trip, we also spotted a coastal black bear feeding along the shoreline.
The half-day Into the Wild Adventure focused on the eagle feeding frenzy that occurs when merging currents force Hake to the surface. It only happens during certain tides, and eagles gather at the tidal rapids to await their meal. It was almost overwhelming to photograph, as there were quickly 100 eagles competing for the small Hake fish as they appeared on the surface.
