Autumn Reflections

Iceland is known for its stunning waterfalls and rugged coastlines, so I was stunned to find small slivers of autumn colors and mirror-like lakes.

Kirkjufell

Made famous by the Game of Thrones, Kirkjufell is one of Iceland's most known landmarks. At just 463 m, it isn't a tall peak but it's dramatic shape truly makes it a special location. It's found near Grundarfjörður on the Snaefellsness Peninsula.

Icelandic Emo

Icelandic horses aren't big; they're essentially pony sized. They're a hearty and long lived, plus they date back to the 8th and 9th centuries. Selective breeding and strict rules keep the species healthy thoughout Iceland and the animals are still used for sheep herding, showing, racing and leisure.

Into the Eye

Although it is only 20 m high, Aldeyjarfoss is a stunning waterfall in northern Iceland. The geological formations truly make the location, as the black basalt columns make this an iconic landscape photograph destination.

Standing Ovation

You might have seen this waterfall in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty or in Justin Bieber's I'll Show You music video, but I can promise it's most impressive in person. At 15 m wide and 60 m high, it's one of Iceland's largest waterfalls and it might be it's most known landmark.

Fall of the Gods

Godafoss - the fall of the gods - is a stunning location near Akureyri and it's steeped in both religious and mythology history. Around the year 1000 (not a typo), Þorgeir made Christianity the official religion across Iceland. It's also said that upon his return to the north, he threw his statues of the Norse Gods into this waterfall.

Reflections on Ice

This image remains close to my heart, as it wasn't easy to capture. When I first arrived at Aldeyjarfoss, I spotted a small pond near its base and knew I wanted to capture a reflection. When I climbed down, I discovered the pond was frozen over. It took me nearly 30 minutes to remove the ice and another few minutes for the water to settle.

Signs of the Zodiac

The Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon is a classic landmark on Iceland's south coast, but its hard to put its scale into perspective. This place is gigantic and some of the icebergs are the size of buildings. When I framed this shot, I knew I was committed to a long wait. I needed a zodiac to pass through the frame to complete they story.

Baby Ice

While the Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon is known for it's building-sized icebergs, the nearby diamond beach is another story. It's a stunning black sand beach that is completely covered with icebergs of all shapes and sizes. It's a dramatic location and easily one of my favourite places to photograph in the world.

My Best Kept Secret

Iceland is practically overflowing with iconic waterfalls to photograph, so I felt quite lucky to discover a new location that I'd never seen before. I'd have never found this on my own, but it's why I'm always keen to travel with a local.

Long and Winding Road

Iceland can be epic. It's best known for stunning locations that are so obvious. Kirkjufellsfoss, Skogafoss, Jokulsarlon, and northern lights dominate the tourism brochures and instagram feeds. But scenes like this small farm show the true Icelandic lifestyle, so I was happy to catch pieces of it as I traveled north for the first time.

Crater Effect

Driving along Iceland's ring road, we needed a break from being in the car. Naturally, we decided to climb a roadside volcanic crater. From there, we had stunning views in all directions that led to an entire day's worth of photography. Sometimes, Iceland doesn't even seem real.
