Reflecting in the Ramparts
After four years in Jasper, I had completed most of the area's iconic hikes except for the Tonquin Valley. A late-autumn weekend provided the opportunity to check it off my bucket list and I soon discovered that the Rampart Mountains might be the most incredible landscape in the entire national park. Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada
Jumbo Wild
Eddie Bauer provided an adventure budget, so I asked this group of skiers where they'd most like to go. Jumbo Pass was the unanimous decision, so we rented snowmobiles and sledded 30km to the trailhead before ski touring up for 6 km. Our reward were some of the best backcountry turns of our life. Jumbo Pass, British Columbia, Canada
Engadine Meadows
Kananaskis Country is a wilderness area and park system that borders Banff National Park. Despite its proximity and similar landscape, Kananaskis sees far fewer annual visitors, so it's where many locals choose to spend their weekend adventures. Kananaskis Country, Alberta, Canada
Stargazing in Saskatchewan
Grasslands National Park is a dark sky preserve, meaning there is limited light pollution and excellent star gazing opportunities. While camping in the East Block's badlands, I stayed up late to watch the milky way pass directly over my tent. East Block, Grasslands National Park, Saskatchewan, Canada
Athabasca Canyon
Kayaker Ethan Begley sends the Athabasca Canyon. Truthfully, we're just downriver from Athabasca Falls, an epic class 6 waterfall that isn't possible to Kayak. To create this image, we had Begley paddle upriver into position. Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada
Fat Biking at Two Jacks
Fat biking is a growing sport in the Canadian Rockies and the frozen lakes in Banff National Park provide an endless amount of terrain.
Seljalandsfoss Freedom
Seljalandsfoss is a stunning waterfall. It's also right on the side of the Ring Road, which leads tourists in a complete circle of Iceland. It's such a unique area, as some of the most rugged landscapes are accessible by nearly anyone, making Iceland a photographer's dream destination. South Coast, Iceland
Jumbo Nights
We almost learned a harsh lesson, as a late start meant arriving at the Jumbo Pass Cabin in the dark. As the sunset, we pulled on our headlamps and continued upwards, hoping to located the cabin. Luckily, we skied straight up to the front door. Jumbo Pass, British Columbia, Canada
Lake O'Hara
When I learned of a last-minute opening at Lake O'Hara, I rushed home from a rafting trip in Idaho. Moments after arriving at the campground, we began hiking the Wiwaxy traverse and the views easily proved why Lake O'Hara is nearly always sold out. This place is stunning. Lake O'Hara, Yoho National Park, British Columbia, Canada
Pyramid Ride
Tasked with photographing the adventures possible nearby Pyramid Lake Resort in Jasper National Park, I asked our group to meet for a sunrise mountain bike ride. We discovered a peaceful morning before we began climbing towards the top of the bench. Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada
Oakridge 17K in a Day
Oregon Adventures' 17K in a Day ride promises riders six shuttles rides and more than 17000 ft total descent. We teamed up with the Imba Trail crew and the journey showed us Oakridge's best trails. Oakridge, Oregon, USA
Air It Out
During an epic storm cycle in Jumbo Pass, we were chased from the alpine into the trees beneath the backcountry cabin. Instead of steep, sustained, descents, we played in pillows and mini golf terrain. Jumbo Pass, British Columbia, Canada
